Apex attachments are new in Modern Warfare 4. Activision describes them like this:
"Apex Attachments introduce a new tier of optional weapon customization, unlocked as the final reward for fully leveling a supported weapon. Equipped separately from standard Gunsmith Attachments, they don't consume an attachment slot, allowing you to further specialize your favorite weapons without changing your existing build."
"Rather than offering incremental stat adjustments, Apex Attachments fundamentally change how a weapon performs."

How to unlock an Apex attachment
- Level the weapon to its max weapon level. The blog defines “Levels” as the number of levels needed to reach max level, “unlocking its Apex Attachment and giving access to Weapon Prestige”.
- 28 of the 33 launch weapons have one. PILA, RPG-8, JOKR, PM-40 Anvil, FSS Carbon Edge 1095 (launchers and the knife) do not.
- The shortest grind is .50 GS (37 levels); the longest is KG-7 Vulcan (75 levels).
- Weapon Prestige resets your weapon level to 1 and relocks attachments “except for Apex Attachments and Weapon Blueprint Attachments”, so you keep the Apex (progression blog).
- The launch patch notes say event rewards include Apex attachments, so more will arrive after launch (patch notes).
Trade-offs: what each Apex blocks
An Apex does not take a slot, but 23 of the 28 block one or more standard attachment types. Plan your build around that before you equip one.

What is the MW4 camo order?
Per the official Call of Duty blog: 8 Military camos (weapon level), 3 Special camos, Gold, Platinum, Harmonic Break, then the Divergence mastery camo.
How do I unlock Gold camo in MW4?
Get 15 kills in a single Multiplayer match, or 100 kills in a single DMZ match, with that weapon.
How do I unlock Platinum?
Earn Gold on every weapon in the class, then finish the class challenge. Assault Rifles: 50 headshots in Multiplayer or 100 in DMZ.
How do Harmonic Break and Divergence unlock?
Harmonic Break needs Platinum on all 33 weapons plus a class challenge (Assault Rifles: 25 double kills in MP or 50 in DMZ). Divergence needs Harmonic Break on all 33 weapons.
Why are some challenges marked unverified?
Activision has published full Special camo challenges only for the Han 86 and Sang 9mm. For the other 31 weapons we show community-reported challenges from a pre-launch sheet, clearly flagged, because the launch patch says some in-game requirements were corrected.
